Grade 2 Health Education practice — grooming and personal care, food groups and food safety, and safe behaviour indoors and out.
Grooming is what Grade 2 adds. A child who has learnt to wash is now asked to look after hair, nails, clothes and shoes without being reminded each morning, and to see that caring for yourself is part of being well rather than a separate rule about appearance.
Food gains a second half too. Alongside which foods the body needs comes whether the food is still fit to eat — covered, washed, stored, and not left standing in the heat — which in a warm climate is the difference between a meal and an illness. Safety widens beyond the house to the bus, the beach and the yard, and to the idea that some risks are avoided by planning ahead rather than by care at the moment.
