The jump from twenty to a hundred is a jump in how a number is written, not only in how far a child can count. Tens and ones become two separate pieces of information held in one symbol, and a child who reads 42 as a four next to a two rather than as forty and two will get every column sum after it wrong.
Two genuinely new ideas arrive on top of that place value. Multiplication is introduced as repeated groups — three plates with four mangoes on each — long before it is a table to recite, and halving is the same picture read the other way, which is why division starts with dividing by 2. Simple fractions grow out of those halves and quarters, and money gives all of it something worth counting.

How it is practised
Each chapter opens into named sub-topics, each with its own question count and its own practice button, so a child who is fine with counting but lost on tens and ones can go straight to tens and ones.
Questions are written as varied real situations rather than one stem with the numbers swapped. A run of near-identical sums is one question to a child, not a page of them.
Read-aloud reads the question and then each lettered choice, highlighting the one being spoken, which keeps a shaky reader from losing marks on maths they can actually do.
