The rest of the year leans on that. Oral work moves from answering a question to holding a short exchange, reading is set against texts carrying more than one idea, and written expression asks for a paragraph that keeps the same tense from its first line to its last. A prescribed book is also where vocabulary stops being a list to learn and becomes words the pupil has already met in use.
