NCE Grade 8 Science — Free Practice Questions

NCE Grade 8 science practice — nutrition and digestion, respiration, acids and bases, forces, pressure, magnetism, work and energy.

Science is still a single subject at Grade 8, but read down the chapter list and next year is already showing through it. Digestion, respiration and disease are biology. The language of chemistry, and acids, bases and salts, are chemistry. Forces, pressure, magnetism, and work and energy are physics. A pupil who spots that has understood something about the shape of the course a year before anybody tells them.

The division is a real one: at Grade 9 the NCE sets Biology, Chemistry and Physics as three independent 45-minute, 50-mark papers. That makes Grade 8 the last year in which one way of thinking covers the whole subject, and the best use of it is the parts that transfer — designing a fair test, reading a symbol correctly, and treating nutrition, disease and technology in society as consequences to reason about rather than lists to recite.
