Where Grade 7 let letters into the arithmetic, Grade 8 is the year geometry stops being measured and starts being calculated. Pythagoras' theorem hands a pupil a length no ruler can reach, and circles introduce a constant that never resolves, so an answer has to be left in a stated form or rounded on purpose rather than by accident.
Surface area and volume then ask for two things in the same breath: seeing a solid inside a flat drawing, and keeping track of whether the unit is squared or cubed. Inequalities make the quieter change — the answer stops being a number and becomes a range of them, the first time a pupil has to describe a whole set of solutions instead of naming one. Personal and household finance keeps the year honest, because a bill either balances or it does not.

How it is practised
Construction and triangle questions carry inline SVG figures, so a drawing shows exactly the angle it claims to and still appears when the connection drops.
Circle and Pythagoras questions resolve cleanly where they can, and where a value genuinely cannot be exact the question states how it should be rounded.
Problems are written as separate situations rather than one stem with fresh numbers dropped into it, since two questions differing only in their figures are a single question to a pupil.
Sub-topics are named and counted inside each chapter, so volume can be revised on its own without walking back through surface area first.
