PSAC Grade 1 French — Free Practice Questions

Grade 1 French practice — listening, speaking, first reading and first written words, every question read aloud in French.

En Grade 1, le français s'entend avant de se lire. L'enfant écoute une consigne courte, la comprend, et répond à voix haute bien avant de savoir écrire le mot qu'il vient de dire.

That order is deliberate, and it shapes what the written half asks for. Reading at this stage is recognising a word already known by ear, and writing is copying it letter by letter until the shape holds. Grammar is nothing more than gender on a handful of familiar nouns, learnt as part of the word rather than as a rule applied to it, and spoken often enough that the wrong article starts to sound wrong before the child can explain why.
