Chemistry at this level rests on one idea: a reaction is a rearrangement, and nothing is lost. Once a pupil can write what went in and what came out, the reactivity series stops being a list to memorise and becomes a prediction — this metal will displace that one, and you can say so before you try it.
The Language of Chemistry chapter is the gate to the rest. Formulae and balanced equations are a notation, and a pupil who cannot read it cannot answer a question about salts no matter how well they understand the chemistry underneath.
