This is modern Mauritian history taught as cause and effect. The road to independence, living conditions in the 1940s to 1960s, and the economy inherited in 1968 lead directly into industrialisation, the EPZ and what is usually called the Mauritian miracle — and the syllabus asks what made it possible and at what social cost.
The second half is the country as it is now: population and migration, Rodrigues and the outer islands, Chagos and Tromelin, government and the welfare state, and the hazards a small island economy has to plan around. Questions are about consequence, not chronology.
