Grade 9 English separates the machinery from the use of it, and assesses both. Ten grammar chapters cover the system in detail — determiners, modals, prepositions, sentence structure, punctuation — because at this level a pupil is expected to name what is wrong with a sentence, not merely feel it.
The other half is interpretation. Reading comprehension asks what a text implies, literary appreciation asks how it achieves that, and writing asks the pupil to produce the effect rather than describe it. Word formation sits between the two: a vocabulary question that is really a grammar question.

How it is practised
Grammar is split into eleven separate chapters rather than one, so a pupil can practise modals without wading through nouns.
Listening and speaking are declared but carry no examinable weight here, because a written practice app cannot honestly assess them — they are not padded out to look complete.
All four multiple-choice options are kept to the same grammatical shape and length, so the answer cannot be found by scanning for the longest.
