Grade 6 is where primary maths stops being about doing one operation correctly and starts being about choosing which operation the situation needs. A child who can compute a percentage still has to recognise that a discount question is a percentage question, and the same number sense has to survive being asked backwards.
The chapters below follow that arc: number and the four operations first, then the three ways of writing a part of a whole — fractions, decimals, ratio and percentage — and finally measurement, where the arithmetic has to carry a unit through a conversion without losing it.

How it is practised
Word problems are treated as their own difficulty level, not as harder sums. They are the questions that ask a child to derive a quantity nobody handed them.
Every division in a worked route comes out exact, so a child is never quietly told that 22.5 people went for a walk.
Each chapter breaks into named sub-topics with their own question count, so a child who is fine with fractions but lost on ratio can practise only ratio.
