By Grade 6 the grammar a child has been taught since Grade 1 stops being tested on its own and starts being tested inside a passage. A question about a pronoun arrives as a sentence that has to be rewritten; a question about tense arrives as a paragraph that has changed its mind halfway through.
So the work splits in two. There is the machinery — nouns and determiners, verbs and voice, how clauses join — and there is reading, where that machinery is the tool rather than the subject, and where a child has to answer what a text implies rather than what it states.

How it is practised
Passages and text types are practised as passages, not as isolated sentences, because that is the form the questions take.
All four options in a multiple-choice question are kept to the same grammatical shape and length, so the answer cannot be spotted by looking at which one is longest.
Read-aloud speaks the question and then each option, lettered, highlighting the one being read — for a child whose reading is the thing being built.
